Live Performance and Events
Since moving to Bristol I am incredibly lucky to have been immersed within the creative community. I have spent the last several years applying my skills to numerous projects, working with a wide range of artists. I have photographed a variety of festivals, musicians, circus, theatre, events, performance art and photobooths. When shooting live events it is highly important for me to not only get the shots needed but also to be mindful of the performance itself. Both in the practical sense of not getting in the way (snapping continuously through with no regard to whats going on onstage) and crucially how the performance is to be remembered.
Tilly May is without doubt the best photographer of live performance I have come across.
She captures the emotion & movement of characters on stage in a way that confirms she is completely attuned to the action.

"Tilly May has photographed live performances on various festival stages that I have curated for several years.
Whether it is a quiet solo performance by a poet, a big raucous live band, or the audience’s warmth, Tilly always manages to capture the essence and the mood of the live venue in her beautiful photos. And on a personal note – when I’m on stage, she always manages to make look quite cool, which is no easy feat!"
- Sally Jenkinson. Poet. Poetry Programmer / Venue Manager at Shambala Festival.
Tilly has been a photographer at several Compass Presents events.
She has a wonderful way of capturing beautiful moments without being noticed. Tilly is also very good at making people feel comfortable in themselves.
